Little Mr. Jacob

As babies willfully do, little Mr. Jacob decided to have an early nap on the day of our photoshoot, so was a little tired (but still remarkably cheerful) when I arrived. It turned out well, as Kristine and I had a good long talk about all the things we have in common. It turns out we grew up in the same small Central Alberta town. We had a good gossip about that :).
Then, we talked about our midwife Barbara, who we love dearly.

Sleeping babies are great to photograph - you can do all sorts of fun things and they don't wiggle and try to eat the props.

Here's his fantastic mom and dad.

Jacob's Daddy is going to Afghanistan in February, so I wanted to get some special pictures of the two of them together.

Be safe Kent, and I'll be thinking of you and your family, and waiting for September.

And here are Jacob's beautiful blue eyes and gorgeous red hair. Handsome little man.

Zina and Cole

Zina and Cole are a fantastic couple with a surprise baby on the way. In my experience, surprise babies are great!

Zina is so beautiful with her red hair and uber-cool purple glasses.

This is one of my favourite pictures. Doesn't she look stunning?
As the photo-shoot went on, they got more relaxed and the photos just got better and better.

I can't wait to do their baby's newborn photos. They said their house has lots of great, wild colours, and I love shooting with bright coloured backgrounds.

Baby is due March 8th. I'll be thinking of you.

My Mother's First Book

My Ma wrote her first book. I am so proud of her.

MaryAnn has always been a storyteller - a career intermittent and decelerated by four children, a small (but time consuming farm), a teaching career spanning 25 plus years and just general life stuff.

In 2005, she got brave, chucked her steady job and decided to pursue storytelling full time. Mostly, she is an oral storyteller. I've seen her do her job and she's fantastic.

People have always encouraged her to put her own ideas to paper. A year ago she did, writing a book for my son Gabriel. It took me most of the year to get organised and get the photography together for the book.

And here it is . . .

When my Ma tried to read it to Gabriel, she cried so hard she could barely do it.
Again, so proud.

Philippa and John

My sister is still as beautiful now as she was back then.

We did the engagement photos in the park where they had their first date.

They look so happy together. Check out John's secret "I love this woman" smile.

John wanted photos of the two of them laughing. That wasn't hard to do, and as a big sister, I am so glad my baby sister is marrying someone who gets, loves and appreciates her sense of humour.

It was -20C for our photoshoot (i.e. pretty stinking cold.) But the upside of shooting in the middle of winter, is the light is beautiful. The sun is low in the sky, and the ice crystals in the air diffuse the sun.

This picture is my favourite. Philippa and John have a really strong faith in God, and whenever I see sunlight like this, I always think of God.

Be blessed you two.

I can't wait until the wedding.

Love,
Rebecca

My baby sister is getting married

Is she not adorable?
