Happy Birthday Desire!

This is my friend Desiree, who is an amazing person, and one of the best mothers I know (if you're looking for childcare in St. Albert, give me a shout and I'll fix you up.) She's one of the few people I let take care of my kids.

Happy birthday, beautiful girl!

Des, with her family, Mark, Jakob and Stella (who was the inspiration for baby Stella's name).

Stella is awesome! She moves like lightening. We stuck her up on a statue to get her to sit still for a second.
Another family picture.

Adorable Jakob - he was born a week before Gabe - and that's actually how Desiree and I met - we were in the same prenatal class with our wonderful midwife, Barbara. Its so cool watching Jakob, Leif and Gabe grow together and seeing what's kid behaviour and seeing their individual talents emerge. Jakob is crazy physical, amazingly co-ordinated and active. Loves hockey (when he was 2, Mark made a hockey rink in their back yard - how cool is that!?). He's kind of shy, until he's comfortable, and then all bets are off. This is my favourite picture from our session. This is just sooooo Jake and Stella. Moving fast and being freaking happy about it.

My friends

I'm so lucky - my friends keep asking me to shoot them :)

Gene and I have been friends since college - we dissected dead animals together, and he got me through Anatomy 201 - its a stinking hard class! After that, we lived together when we were in university, and I am so grateful to have him in my life. A few years later, he met and married Lily, who is an awesome, beautiful person (and I was really blessed to be a MC at their wedding.) Isaac and and their son, Keaton are the same age (Keaton is 2 days older), and now, we live down the (long) street from each other.

Lily and Gene asked me to do a portrait session for their family. (How good looking are they?!)
This is Lily's dad . . .
Who has a wonderful family . . .
With all boy grandchildren!
Lily, with her brothers. It was kind of cool (and a little nerve wracking) to realise that sibling rivalry (and beating each other up) doesn't end.
The in-laws.
Here's a few of my favourites from our session.

Thanks guys. I love you!

Christmas is Coming

This is kind of funny, because I am the worst person for shopping early.
But - I'm happy to help you out!

Stay tuned, because I'll be announcing a sale soon. I'm just working out the details.

(this will be part of it - I just purchased these templates. They're so pretty - and the colours and text are totally customisable).

Canvases - bigger is better

Whenever anyone asks me for my opinion in prints, I always suggest the canvas.

I fell in love with giclée printing when I first saw it a few years ago. The first picture I had done was the orange flower, then the picture of my boys, then Cupid and Psyche (which I took in Paris).

After getting these done, I don't know if I could go back to an 8x10 print (unless there were three of them, on canvas :) hung side by side).

You can hang them straight on the wall, or you can have them framed.

I've found a company whose work (and customer service) is outstanding. All of the clients I've had who've ordered canvases have been thrilled with them.

Here's the flower and my boys. I had these done a couple years ago, and love them (but I did order a second print of Gabe and Isaac for their dad from my current canvas supplier, and was much happier with the result).

Forgive the messy livingroom.

This canvas has a black border (you can get any colour) and is 12x18 inches.

This has a blue border and is 3x4 feet.

In this one, I had the photo wrap around the frame. The canvas is 2x3 feet.

These next two shots show how the canvas is stretched around the frame. You can see the very edge of the picture as it comes around the top, then the white edge of the canvas, which is stapled to the wooden frame. The larger pictures have the cross bars to brace them.

This one comes with hangers. They're cool, and if you can't hammer two nails in a straight line, like me, its ok!

The end of summer

Our dear friend came for a visit today. My boys adore her. She was present for both of their births (ok, she missed Isaac by half an hour, but he was super-speedy when he decided to come into the world).

Here is my Isaac. He's taken to wearing his dad's motorcycle glasses, and we got a hand-me-down motorcycle jacket in his size. He is unbelievably stinking cute! One of my favourite words he says right now is "o-tay".

The end of summer and the wasps are filling up on sugar before they hibernate. Gabe's lip, coated with sugar got in a wasp's way. Poor buddy. He was pretty brave though. His first wasp bite.

I love to make people cry

I have the best job EVER!

Oh Rebecca......these shots are amazing!! What no one else can see is a 9 yr old who doesn't really want his picture taken, twins running in separate directions and a frazzled Mom! Your talent was put to the test and you came through with flying colours!! It was an extremely difficult shoot and I am thrilled to tears with the results! THANK YOU!

Oh Rebecca - it's the mom again! My husband just picked up the pics and he called to say that he is touched to tears! I could hear in his voice that his eyes were welling up. He says all the pics are remarkable!!! Thank you so much for helping us preserve the memories of four of our kids as little ones!

I have tears in my eyes looking at these photos. You really captured Louise and Ian's love and support for each other. Thank you for posting them.

Happy Birthday Ma

This is my mom, the story teller, and it was her birthday on the 3rd. Happy birthday Ma!

My boys haven't seen her in action yet, so I had to coach them that we couldn't just run up to Nana Mae when we saw her, because she was telling stories for everyone, not just for Gabe and Isaac. Here, they're waiting, very patiently, for their Nana Mae to finish.

And then, the wide open arm hug. My boys adore their Nana Mae.

Nana Mae is fun!
Here, Isaac is showing off how he can put two tomatoes in his mouth at a time.

Welcome Home Daddy

I don't think this post needs any more words.

Ok, just a couple more words . . . look at our little buddy Jacob who made the first page of the Edmonton Sun this morning. His t-shirt reads "My Daddy Wears Combat Boots" and the back says "And he's my hero".

Glad to have you home Kent.

Kent's Home!

Kent is home!!!! Yeah!
More pictures in a day or two.

Caitlin and Scott - the wedding

Caitlin and Scott had a beautiful, intimate wedding ceremony last weekend.

These two are such awesome people, and after meeting their families, I can see why. Caitlin's mom and grandmother were so fun and funny, and they love their Caitlin to bits.

They say you marry someone like your dad - and, well, yes and no. Caitlin's dad is a super-nice guy, who looks nothing like Scott!
Caitlin and Scott's love for each other is beautiful to see. Through out the ceremony, they kept reaching over to touch each other, checking to see the other was doing ok.

Here, Caitlin is wiping away the tears.
One thing I love about smaller ceremonies, is you can get a shot of everyone.
Onto the beautiful couple shots. These two are so good at posing, I just had to get the light and the composition right.

After some couple time, we went back to Caitlin's parent's house for a beautiful back yard party, catered by A Cappella Catering.
... with beer
And cookies. The food was delicious. It has been such a pleasure to work with you, Caitlin and Scott. I wish you a happy and joyous marriage.
